Perinatal Chiropractic & What it Means for You and Your Growing Family
Hi! My name is Dr. Paul Fierro, I’m the Sports and Family Chiropractor at Koru Chiropractic in Louisville, Colorado. I’m proud to announce that this past September 2024, I was granted my Perinatal Certification from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). This certification is an 80-hour, 10-course advanced certification that provides Doctors of Chiropractic with techniques and protocols of care for the perinatal patient. I’m thrilled to share how these qualifications allow me to better support expecting mothers and their growing families, not only within my community but widely spread through the country as more families begin to understand the magic and benefits of chiropractic for pregnancy.
What is Perinatal Chiropractic?
Perinatal chiropractic is a specialized area of chiropractic care focused on supporting women through pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. This depth of care addresses the unique changes that occur during pregnancy, helping to manage pregnancy-related pains, maintaining proper alignment, optimizing the body for labor, and ensuring as much space as possible for baby within the womb.
Key Aspects of Perinatal Chiropractic Care:
-
Pelvic Alignment:
As the body adjusts to accommodate a growing baby, the spine and pelvis undergo changes that may lead to misalignment and discomfort. Chiropractic adjustments can help keep the pelvis aligned, reducing pain and contributing to a smoother delivery.
-
Nervous System Support:
Perinatal chiropractic care promotes nervous system health, which plays a massive role in reducing stress as well as promoting optimal function of organs, muscles, and glands.
-
Pain Relief:
Common issues such as lower back pain, sciatica, SI joint pain, and pubic bone pain are addressed comprehensively with perinatal chiropractic care. Techniques are gentle and modified for pregnancy.
-
The Webster Technique:
The Webster Technique is a specific technique commonly used in perinatal chiropractic, focusing on the balance of the pelvis to create an optimal environment for the baby. Webster Certified doctors are taught gentle adjusting techniques, individual case management systems, and evidence-informed practice to best care for pregnant women.
The goal of perinatal chiropractic care is to support women during pregnancy by improving their overall well-being, preparing the body for a healthier, more comfortable, and optimal labor, as well as postpartum recovery.
Perinatal Certified: A Rigorous Program
The Perinatal Certification program covers advanced levels of training and expertise in addition to what is offered in chiropractic colleges. The ICPA offers Doctors of Chiropractic an opportunity to achieve certification in perinatal wellness chiropractic through advanced academics and clinical studies. The 80-hour curriculum provides the doctor with techniques and protocols of care for the perinatal patient in a comprehensive and succinct manner.
Increasing Range of Care
This certification enables Dr. Paul to expand his range of care to women throughout the perinatal period with excellence and in accordance with evidence-informed practice. I am honored to provide care to women throughout the perinatal period and beyond. This certification enables me to have a greater impact on health and wellness in my community for generations to come, thanks to the training and support of the ICPA.
As a family wellness chiropractor, Dr. Paul co-manages the care of his patients with local providers. He works with pediatricians, obstetricians, midwives, naturopaths, functional medicine doctors, and dentists to get to the root cause of disease. Dr. Paul and Koru Chiropractic strive to create an environment where you feel supported and understood. We take the time to listen to your concerns, answer your questions, and create a personalized care plan that meets your unique needs. Our goal is for you to reach your health goals and enjoy the life you deserve with ease.
