Local Small Business Success
Never in a million years did I dream the Solopreneur Grant would be so successful. We raised almost $6,000 through the month of May!
The community support was amazing with donations from friends and family, small businesses, other solopreneurs, and even the Superior Chamber of Commerce.
We had a very competitive field with about a dozen eligible solopreneurs applying. Dr. Alison and I narrowed it down to a top 5 then submitted the candidates to our voting committee, which was comprised of our top business donors, including Code Blue Computing, Blue Federal Credit Union, and High 5 Plumbing. A big thank you to the committee because the selection was not easy and with lots on the line for the Solopreneurs I’m sure the committee felt the pressure!
The winners were:
Dani Bondurant owner of Love Dani Studio
Dr. Christina Coblish owner of Upper Cervical Chiropractic of Boulder
Allie Beckmann owner of Widespread Wellness
A big congratulations to each of them, as they had such great ‘whys’, big support with their videos from their social networks and a mission to make our communities better with if they won the money. I think the committee mad a difficult but excellent selection. Well done!
I know for myself and I think the same is true for Alison, which is that we were also struggling in business during this time, and it seemed like you could barely make it a day let alone an hour before finding out about some new stressor.
I’ve got a big mission to help people myself as a neurologically based corrective care upper cervical chiropractor, usually it is with neck pain, headaches, migraines, low back pain, sciatica, numbness and tingling and vertigo to name a few conditions. But when the current crisis hit and I was forced to see ‘essential’ visits only, it essential closed my doors.
Focusing on the grant allowed us to focus on the good in our community and feel like we where still contributing when our normal means was so limited.
Someone asked me if I would do it all again, and while there are things we would change (after all we threw this together in a few hours essentially) I would absolutely do it again and I’m very proud of what we were able to do during such a challenging time!
